KNIT FABRIC OPTIONS FOR THE EBONY TEE

Ebony Tee Fabric Options // Closet Case Patterns

One of my favourite things about making clothing (either for myself or for shop samples) is obsessing over fabric. I’ve started creating physical inspiration boards for each new pattern, and at any given time there are dozens of swatches pinned to each one as I narrow down what we’re going to use for the final shoot.

At the time we made our final Ebony samples, I was still convinced it was ideally made up in lighter weight, drapey knits, so that’s mostly what we used. However, over the last few months I’ve discovered it works in a variety of weights; scuba and double knit are a particular favourite for something a little more sculptural and dramatic.

Here are some beautiful fabric options I think would work really well

for the Ebony Tee Pattern.

DRAPEY KNITS

one – merino jersey // two – tissue weight rayon// three – french terry // four – stretch velvet // five – rayon jersey // six – stretch velvet //  seven -hatchi sweater knit // eight – rayon jersey // nine – rayon jersey

Soft, fluid knits work like a charm for Ebony and give maximum swish; think lightweight sweater knits, and modal and rayon jerseys, as opposed to cotton spandex or thick interlock knits.

PRINTED KNITS

one – rayon stripe // two – shibori bamboo // three – burn out jersey // four – striped merino // five – ity // six – shibori bamboo // seven – rayon jersey // eight – rayon spandex // nine – rayon jersey

You might want to consider a bold print or classic stripe for your Ebony, since the pattern drape provides a great canvas. I’m especially crazy about shibori prints right now, and am totally in love with this raglan Ebony by Style Maker Fabrics.

SCUBA & DOUBLE KNITS

one – double face pique // two – jacquard double knit // three – double faced stripe // four – marble scuba // five – silver lama scuba // six – floral scuba // seven – lace scuba // eight – graphic scuba // nine – graphic scuba

As I’ve mentioned, this pattern looks pretty great sewn up in a more structured fabric like scuba and double knits; they have heft and volume and look modern and sculptural. It’s a great evening look.
