This Week in Sewing Blogs // vol. 135

Spring has FINALY arrived in Montreal and to celebrate G and I walked around all afternoon today, drinking coffee, stopping for brunch and shopping for backsplash tile. I had my first meeting with my contractor yesterday for the small kitchen renovation I’ll be doing before I move into my new place, so now I’m trying to figure out how to make this dream kitchen a reality on my minuscule budget. If anyone has a good source for pretty brass cabinet hardware I’m all ears.

I’m also on a bit of a bramaking tear now that I nailed the fit on my Harriet Bra, and will be cranking out my third one today. It is the most comfortable underwire bra I’ve ever made – hardly feels like I’m wearing anything at all, so no more stretched out bralettes for this lady! Hope you also find some time to make something beautiful this weekend.

ADMIRE

Speaking of Harriet – how pretty is this white lace set from Couture & Tricot?

Clever Tinker reminded me I need to add the Acton Dress to my spring sewing queue.

I’m such a sucker for black and white prints; charmed by this sweet dress from Diary of Chainstitcher and the ruffly sleeved goodness of this beauty from What Katie Sews.

Maybe one of my favourite Tamaracks – this green one from Julie is fantastic.

I am totally obsessed with the tencel Flint pants I made last week. Love love love this glam pair from Jasika.

A few friends released great patterns this week: the Fenway bra from Orange Lingerie, the Lodo Dress from True Bias and the Drape Blouse from Workroom Social. Get ready for our new spring pattern – we launch next Monday!

ReDpants Designs made another stunning statement dress.

An oldie but a goodie; read this and stop telling yourself you can’t make things because they’re “scary”.

LISTEN

Drop what you’re doing and start listening to S-Town; it’s easily the most riveting podcast I’ve ever heard and made me feel everything over the course of its 7 episode run. A tragic southern gothic.

Why you should Sew your own T-shirts

We are talking t shirts today. While these closet staples may not be the most exciting pattern in the library, they are arguably the most versatile and frequently worn thing you can make. For years I avoided sewing these pattern basics like the plague. Why sew something that cost less to purchase? And that doesn’t even factor […]

Simplicity 1463

When I was at Sewjourn in November my friend Kathryn sewed up a gorgeous version of Simplicity 1463.  Since I had some spare fabric with me, I quickly borrowed her pattern pieces and gave it a go as well! There really isn’t much to this pattern. Front piece, back piece, cuffs, neckband. That’s it. It… Continue reading Simplicity 1463
