The road rally continues with another day of block fun, showcasing the designers in Volume 16 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks. It’s not too late to join this week-long tour. If you missed the first day of the tour, be sure to check out the 11 blocks and block stops we toured on Day 1 here. The latest issue of 100 Blocks is on the newsstand and you can also get a digital copy of the issue from QuiltandSewShop.
Enter to WIN one of the daily prize giveaways.
Join the SOUVENIR HUNT to enter 1 of 3 Grand Prize Giveaways.
Be sure to make all the block stops. The designers talk about their blocks, share ideas for using their design and some have prize giveaways, and some of the designer stops include a treasure for you to collect to participate in the Souvenir Hunt. Check out the questions below to know the souvenirs you are looking for today!
Let’s get on the road!
Designed by: Nancy Allen
From the intersection of 4 quadrants of Quarter-Square Triangles X Marks the Spot in Nancy’s block design. Do you see a secondary design emerge from this block?
Designed by: Cheryl Brickey, Meadow Mist Designs
Cheryl made Boxed Pinwheelfrom foundation piecing and Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton Solids fabric. The sharp contrast resulting from the solid fabric gives this block two-dimensional appeal.
Designed by: Kelli Fannin, Kelli Fannin Quilt Designs
Conversation Hearts is like one of those Valentine’s Day boxes of stamped candy hearts. You know, the ones you sort through to find ‘the right one’ to give a friend? Kelli created the special messages for hearts with fabric. Can you tell what kind of fabric she used?
Designed by: Cynthia Foster, Carter Creek Quilts
Do you have an exceptional view to peek at while you sew? Cynthia shares what she sees beyond her sewing machine in her block design, Love the View.
Designed by: Amy Friend, During Quiet Time
Foundation piecing expands the possibilities of block designs. Amy takes on a creative edge with her block Jagged by joining two foundation sections. She made her sample block with her own fabric design, Improv by Amy Friend for Contempo, a division of Benartex Fabrics.
Designed by: Mary Hertel, Made by Marney
You can just see the icicles form in Mary’s Icy Blast design. It’s another example of the fun things that can happen with foundation piecing.
Designed by: Debbie Martin
The geese are flying every which way in Puzzled Geese.
Designed by: Laura Piland, Slice of Pi Quilts
Can you figure out how Laura made her block? It almost looks like she created a pieced background and then sewed an open square on top of it in Skyscraper. This is one unique block design to check out.
Designed by: Kelly Young, My Quilt Infatuation
Shades of color spin from the center, like a Centrifuge. Kelly made her unique block design with Kona Cotton Solids from Robert Kaufman and Cirrus Solids by Cloud 9 Fabrics.
You can find the pattern instructions to make all the blocks we’ve previewed today in Volume 16 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks. Purchase your copy here.
