The Start of Great Original Projects

It’s so easy to create needlepoint projects that are uniquely your own if you begin with a simple line drawing on canvas. Yes, you can find them in shops as coloring book canvases, but did you know it’s so easy to create your own from drawings you find? My newest ebook, Needlepoint Templates, has over […]

Buying on Facebook, Etsy, and eBay Part Two

Yesterday we talked about buying and selling on Facebook. Today we’ll cover buying and selling on Etsy. It was originally, and mainly still is, a platform for selling hand-made and vintage goods. Originally you had to be the maker of non-vintage items you sold, but they have loosened this requirement. Even so, the vast majority […]

Your Opinion Needed

Since I had several disastrous experiences with my old host provider a bit over a year ago, I have been without an on-line place to buy my project packs, stitch guides, and ebooks. It’s been frustrating for you and for me. I have been reconsidering Etsy. In the past I have avoided it largely because […]

Etsy Steers Away from Reinventing Commerce, Instead Encourages Sellers to Compete

I’m noticing a real change in the way Etsy talks about itself, its sellers, and its future. Before the board fired CEO Chad Dickerson in May, replacing him with former board member Josh Silverman under whose auspices another 23% of the staff was let go, Etsy’s message was focused on changing the world, what Chad…

Thread Tidies First Look

When I’m home or on the road and stitching I try to keep my needlepoint neat. I hate having threads hanging around. It makes me nuts! So much so that one year at the ANG Seminar I spent every evening and my entire day off finishing up all the little squares on our project we […]

A Discussion About the Recent Changes at Etsy

This has been an intense month for Etsy. The launch of Etsy Studio, the mandatory implementation of Etsy Payments, the shift to the new Shop Manager would have all been hectic as is, but then last week we also saw the board fire CEO Chad Dickerson as well as the CTO and 8% of the…

Why a Label Printer is a Business Investment Worth Making

I started selling my work online in July of 2005. Etsy was brand new and I opened a shop as soon as I heard about it. In those early days Etsy was a lot clunkier than it is today – creating a new listing required entering information on five different pages – but it was…

Giveaway: Sora Designs “Handmade” + “Sewing Necklace”

We all love handmade items. That’s a give in. Duh! Well, today I am hosting a giveaway that is very much in line with that word. Sora Designs is offering two necklaces to one lucky reader – one that says “handmade” and one that says “sewing”. They’re different lengths, one is long and one is short, so you can wear them together. Umm… I’m SUPER jealous of whoever wins!

Before I get to contest entry, let me talk a little bit about the shop. Wen is the owner and in her previous life, she was a senior research analyst for the Judicial Council of California. Her role was to provide evidence-based research data to support policy making in the judicial council in the areas of family lay and juvenile delinquency and dependency court administration. It’s VERY different from what she is doing now, and very inspiration, especially since this month, I’ll be making a huge transition myself. I’ll be leaving my day job to pursue my passion, Madalynne, full time. Finally! That’s a different post for a different day that is coming very soon.
